Seattle Counselor Reco?
randi23
I'm looking for a good counselor in the Seattle area (preferably on the east side) that specializes in SA. Does any one have any recommendations? I know that I'm going to need some counseling myself to get through this... Thanks!

I want to think I know someone in Seattle that deals in ministry. Let me put a question in to the family and see if they know anyone...
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18NIV

Oh shoot - ages ago I had a link that was nationwide. Let me see if I can dig it up.

I think you're really smart seeking a counselor that has experience working with clients with SA. From my experience - some of them sort of sweep it under the rug with the old "what's the problem" attitude.

I've gone so far as to write up a request for proposal - with a summary of the situation and a series of questions in regard to how a counselor works, what their speciality is, how do they hold patients accountable, do they assign work outside of the session, etc.

I'll do some digging around today in my files and see if I can track info down for you.

Added later -

Well the link I thought I had in an email seems to have vaporized into thin air. I hate that about computers!

But I did come across another link that might be helpful.

I've not used them (and we aren't about endorsing any single resource). I'd suggest taking a look and in combination with asking some questions of any potential service providers. Let us know how you do.

Who is a God like you? You forgive sin and overlook the rebellion of your faithful people. You will not be angry forever, because you would rather show mercy. - Micah 7:18

I have a message into someone and she said she thinks she does know someone and she'd get back to me. Just waiting to hear... Smile

Thanks for looking everyone! It's just so devastating that my husband can do all of these things to us, our marriage, our children and then go about life as if nothing has happened. I think I'm coming to the end of my rope with him...

(((hugs))) - I know that feeling. The grief, the anger, the frustration. Saying a prayer for calm for you.

Hi I'm Kelly from the "Ask an overcomer" forum. I live in Seattle and have some excellent resources for someone who is looking for a counselor. Rob Baker (Bellevue) is not a licensed doctor but rather a skilled counselor who is a Christian. He is the best I've ever run into. I cannot tell you how many times he has quietly pulled my heart out of my chest and gently allowed me to look at it all the while giving me a hug. The man is amazing. If you would like his phone number send me a message and I'll type it up for you. Rob works both with the man and the wife.

Yay! Thanks, Kelly! I was still waiting to hear from my contact...

I would go with his suggestion! Smile. Praying that you can now enter a new phase of healing...
